How to obtain Criminal Record Certificate in Vietnam for Foreigner?

Criminal record certificate (also called criminal record card/ judicial record certificate/ police check/ police certificate/ police clearance certificate) is issued by competent state agencies to provide judicial information about a person in Vietnam.

According to Vietnam law on criminal record, foreigner who has been residing in Vietnam at least 6 months can apply for criminal record certificate in Vietnam and the competent authority that granting the Criminal record for foreigner is the Justice Department of Province or City where foreigner has been living.

Document required of application for Criminal record certificate in Vietnam as below:

  • A written application form
  • A certified copy of your passport
  • A certified copy of your temporary residence card for the time living in Vietnam
  • The power of attorney: in case of authorization for another person apply for your criminal record certificate. The written authorization must be certified in accordance with the law
  • An application letter for granting Criminal record certificate.

Please be noted that during the process of applying for the criminal record certificate, the applicant might has to work with the Public Securities agencies; or the Court if there are not sufficient evidence at the police agencies to conclude that the applicant has no criminal records or the content of application is not clear.
